The D.H. Lawrence Collection consists four series: correspondence, notebooks, manuscripts, and periodicals. The letters are grouped by correspondent and arranged chronologically. This collection contains 32 letters written during the American involvement in World War I, 1917-1918. The bulk of these letters were written by Earl L. Kohler, serving in the 469th Aero Squadron, to his brother E. LaRue Kohler, who was a student at Bucknell University.
