The Mental Health and Illness Advocacy Society is a student organization that aims to provide the Bucknell community with engaging talks, training, and events that are designed to educate students and faculty on how to care for people with mental health or illness issues. Through this, we believe that, with help from trained professionals, we can help people learn the signs that someone is struggling. By opening up in these discussions and bringing these issues more into the mainstream, we hope to foster a community that doesn't stigmatize these issues but rather seeks to resolve them. This will ultimately allow people struggling to open up more as they feel more supported within their campus community, as well as allow those who are friends, classmates, and professors of those struggling to properly address their mental health needs. This work could potentially save lives as we work in collaboration with the Counseling and Student Development Center to decrease stigma and help those struggling.
