Materials Specific Details

Initials, "O St J G." According to the seller of the manuscript, E. Maitland Wolf, this unpublished poem was recited extemporaneously by Gogarty in a bar at the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin, while in the company of four or five friends. One of the friends took the words down as Gogarty recited them, rushed to the copyist on duty at the Hotel, and had six copies typed. He had Gogarty initial this, the first one, which has been heat-sealed. However, the poem appears to have been included in a letter from Gogarty, and ends with a characteristic Gogarty closing, "Tout a Toi." Typescript. Two 8-line stanzas; "6 copies" in pencil in margin.
