Scope and Contents
The letters, manuscripts, and business papers that make up the collection chronicle the last years of the writing career of Norman Douglas, discussing his business dealings, research, travels and thoughts on other authors. The collection is made up of 6 series: Manuscripts, Correspondence to Albert Parsons Sachs, Correspondence to Others, Business Papers, Correspondence Concerning Norman Douglas, and Items about the Collection. The collection consists of 102 items dating from 1921 to 1970. It includes five manuscripts; ninety letters of Douglas; business papers; three letters about Douglas; and two letters about the collection.

Materials Specific Details
Douglas has had no news from Italy and is concerned about his servant who remained there. Carlo, the servant to whom Orioli left all his money, is in Portugal. Carlo cannot go to England, and refused to go to Italy to collect his inheritance. Douglas has done no writing since he finished [An] Almanac, except for an introduction to a new edition of South Wind. He fears his writing days are over, and regrets that he cannot even review books anymore to bring in some money. He encloses a copy of a letter to Robert Thomas Hardy, Inc., in which he proposes a reprint of An Almanac, and asks Sachs to push them to print the book.
