The letters, manuscripts, and business papers that make up the collection chronicle the last years of the writing career of Norman Douglas, discussing his business dealings, research, travels and thoughts on other authors. The collection consists of 102 items dating from 1921 to 1970. Materials Specific Details
Douglas thanks Sachs for the cable of good wishes for his birthday and echoes the wish that this year will be better than the last. Due to the fall of the pound sterling from ninety two to sixty two, Douglas is moving to France where the conditions are supposed to be easier. He says that going back to England would be another solution, but he can only face that country as a tourist. He has not done any work lately, blaming his lack of inspiration on "change of life." Enclosure: postcard of La Cattedrale in Firence. Douglas inscription on verso: "A bloody church! Very appropriate for both of us, eh?"
