Scope and Contents
The theatre programs of the Janet and Sigfried Weis Collection are arranged alphabetically by program title and range from 1950 to 1990. The programs include performances for plays and musicals. Also included in the collection are announcements for performances, Playbill magazine, and program for a kabuki performance at Kabukiza in Japan.
Additional items in the collection are unprocessed.

Biographical History
Sigfried Weis was born in 1916 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. The son of Sigmund Weis, a founder of the Weis Markets chain, Sigfried attended Yale University and joined the family business after serving in WWII. Sigfried served as Chairman of Weis Markets until his retirement in January 1995.
Janet C. Weis was born in 1919 in New Haven, Connecticut. After her marriage to Sigfried Weis in 1939, she moved to Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Together Sigfried and Janet Weis made significant philanthropic contributions to their community. Their contributions included the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital at Geisinger, the Sigfried Weis Music Building and the Weis Center for Performing Arts at Bucknell University and the Weis Wing at Sunbury Community Hospital. The Weis' also provided support for a number of local arts endeavors in the area. Sigfried served on the Board of Trustees at Bucknell University from 1968 to 1984 and as emeritus trustee from 1984 to 1995. Janet Weis continued to serve in his place after his death in 1995, from 1996 to 2010. Sigfried Weis died on June 11, 1995 and Janet Weis died on January 3, 2011.
