Administrative History

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs was established at Bucknell University in 1962. The Vice President for Academic Affairs served as the chief academic officer and was responsible for all of the education policies of the University, provided leadership in setting academic priorities, including planning, budgeting and administering, and evaluated the academic affairs of the University.

The responsibilities of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs were integrated into those of the newly created Provost position in 1967. The office was reestablished in 1982 under Frances D. Fergusson when the Provost position was divided into the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Vice President of Planning and Administration. The vice presidencies were again restructured into the Office of the Provost in 2005. The position of Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs continued under the Office of the Provost until 2007.
