Administrative History
Medical care for students was established at Bucknell University in 1926. Originally known as the Student Health Service, by 1952 it was renamed the University Health Service. Students paid a comprehensive fee each semester for access to doctor services, infirmary care and medications. Originally two infirmaries were located on campus, Zeigler Infirmary for men and Women’s Infirmary located in Bucknell Cottage. Throughout its existence, the medical services available have expanded to included gynecological services, physical therapy, drug counseling and nutrition services. The Student Health Service has undergone a number of name changes and is currently known as Bucknell Student Health and services are provided by the Geisinger Health System on the Bucknell University campus.
