  • Biographical / Historical

    Tustin Gymnasium was erected in 1890 with funds raised from alumni and friends and dedicated to the memory of Dr. Francis Wayland Tustin. The building was used to provide physical training for male students. The Gymnasium of the Institute provided physical training for female students. The directors of Tustin Gymnasium made and recorded physical examinations of male students and suggested exercise for physical development. Students were required to exercise in the gymnasium during the winter term.

    The records of Tustin Gymnasium are arranged alphabetically by folder title and range from 1891 to 1908. The records include a report and a ledger. The ledger includes records of the physical attributes of male students and prescribed exercise.
