The Theological Department was established at the University at Lewisburg in 1855 under Reverend Thomas F. Curtis. The course of study for students within the Theological Department was two years of study for graduates and students interested in pursung theology alone. The course of study covered Hermeneutics, Introductions to the Old and New Testaments, Hebrew, and the Exegetical study of the Bible in its original languages, Systematic Theology, Church history, and Homiletics. Additionally, there was a regular course that consisted of three years and included Theological Studies and general studies of the college. Students in the three year course graduated with a B.A. degree. The Theological Department was discontinued in the academic year 1867-1868. The teaching of Theology was transferred to the newly formed Crozer Theological Seminary in Upland, Pennsylvania.
