Administrative History
The Society of Alumni was formed in 1851 by the first graduating class of the University at Lewisburg. As stated in the 1851 constitution, the functions of the organization included “the promotion of Literature, the preservation of pleasing associations, and especially, the welfare and advancement of the University.” All graduates receiving a degree from the University at Lewisburg were permitted to join the Society of Alumni. In 1876, the Society of Alumni was renamed the Alumni Association of Bucknell. It was also known later as the General Alumni Association (1919-1969), Bucknell Alumni Association (1970-2009) and Bucknell University Alumni Association (2010- ).
