Biographical / Historical
Oscar Fingal O’Fflahertie Wills Wilde was born in Dublin on October 16, 1854 and died November 30, 1900. Wilde was an actor, playwright, poet, and novelist. During his short life, Wilde produced a number of important literary works including Lady Windermere’s Fan, The Importance of Being Earnest, and The Ballad of Reading Gaol. In 1887, in addition to his own literary projects, Wilde assumed the editorship of Lady’s World, later retitled The Woman’s World. For this journal he solicited articles from a variety of women writers including actress Kate Terry Lewis.
