Administrative History

Although a course titled Art History had been taught at Bucknell University since 1919, the Art Department was not formally established at Bucknell University until 1926. The first courses offered by the department were Art 101, History of Art, and Art 102, Appreciation of Art. Course work expanded to include additional coursework in history of art as well as studio art. A reorganization of the curriculum of the University in 1932 made it possible to major in art. In 1998, the Art Department was renamed the Department of Art and Art History.
