Scope and Contents
The records of the Art Department are arranged alphabetically by folder title and range from 1944-1998. Included in the records are announcements, correspondence, exhibit booklets, a historical sketch of the art department written by Blanchard Gummo, syllabi, and records relating to the Samuel H. Kress Study Collection.

Administrative History
Although a course titled Art History had been taught at Bucknell University since 1919, the Art Department was not formally established at Bucknell University until 1926. The first courses offered by the department were Art 101, History of Art, and Art 102, Appreciation of Art. The department was later expanded to include additional coursework in history of art as well as studio art. It became possible to major in art through a reorganization of the curriculum of the University in 1932. In 1998, the Art Department was renamed the Department of Art and Art History.
