Administrative History
The Office of the Dean of Women was established in 1897 as a resource for advice or assistance for women enrolled in Bucknell University. According to the 1970-1971 Bucknell University student handbook, "the Dean of Women offers guidance and counsel for undergraduate women and seeks to promote, through residence hall counselors, successful adjustment to all phases of college life." The Dean of Women also served as an advisor to the sororities and women's organizations on campus. The Office of the Dean of Women continued until 1971 when it was absorbed into the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs.
