Administrative History
The department of Buildings and Grounds was in charge of campus planning, renovations and construction, and maintanence of campus buildings and grounds. Work was overseen by the President of the University and the Trustee committee on Buildings and Grounds. E. C. Houck was agent from 1882-1885, Frank Eugene Burpee was superintendent from 1905-1944, George M. Kunkel was acting superintendent in 1944-1945, John C. Reed was acting superintendent from 1945-1946, and Walter C. Geiger was superintendent from 1946 to 1957 when the department name changed to Physical Plant and his title became director. The department name was changed again in 2002 to Facilities.
