Earl L. Kohler Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains 32 letters written during the American involvement in World War I, 1917-1918. The bulk of these letters were written by Earl L. Kohler, serving in the 469th Aero Squadron, to his brother E. LaRue Kohler, who was a student at Bucknell University.
The remaining letters were written to other family members or by friends or relatives.

Biographical / Historical
Earl Leon Kohler (June 20, 1894 - March 18, 1949) was a lifelong resident of Hughesville, PA. He was the son of James H. Kohler and Ida (Zinck) Kohler.
Kohler served in the 57th Aero Squadron (later the 469th) in the American Expeditionary Force. He spent much of his time in France stationed at the Tours Aerodrome.
His brother, Elvin LaRue Kohler, was a member of the Bucknell University Class of 1921; during his time at the university he served in the Student Army Training Corps (S.A.T.C.).
In his later years, Earl Kohler owned a grocery store and served on the Hughesville High School School Board. He was married to Caroline S. (Hill) Kohler and had one daughter, Janet C. Kohler (d. 2013).
