Scope and Contents

The records of the Administrative Council are arranged alphabetically by folder title and range in date from 1939 to 2004. The records include correspondence, minutes and materials from the Car Permit Committee and the University Traffic Committee. Minutes include policy decisions, such as decisions related to a women’s intercollegiate varsity athletic program, veterans housing, and extended library hours. The minutes include discussions regarding student discipline. The University Traffic Committee records include information on policies and regulations concerning student automobiles on campus at Bucknell University.

Administrative History

The Administrative Council was formed in 1935 to set the policies for Bucknell University with the input of the faculty. Original members of the Administrative Council included the President, Dean of the College, Treasurer, Registrar, Librarian, Dean of Women, Director of the Junior College, now named Wilkes University, and the Director of the Summer School. The most recent formation of the Administrative Council consisted of the President, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, Vice President for Finance and Administration, Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for University Relations, General Counsel, and the Academic Deans and was chaired by the President. In the mid-2000s, the group was renamed Senior Staff and was chaired by the Chief of President's Staff.
